getting through the COVID-19 crisis

Owing to the unfolding situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, many authorities have taken steps to protect their states and general public health. It can be really scary, uncertain, and frustrating to not know the full scope of the situation and to be bombarded by news from all angles. This is impacting people across the lifespan, regardless of age, race, or health status. We may not exhibit symptoms or get sick, but we all may be carriers. The only way to get through is to adopt a “we, not me” perspective. We are all in this together and we will make it through together.

Read on for some survival tips as well as some informative articles and resources.


Take precautions

  • Stay home as much as you can and only leave for necessary reasons (social distancing)

  • Stay home if you are sick and limit contact with others

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

  • Wash your hands often!

  • Don’t touch your face

  • Have about 2 weeks’ worth of supplies at home

  • Think flu precautions on steroids


Staying sane while social distancing

  • Video dates with friends and family

  • Texting or calling friends and family

  • Engaging in indoor hobbies, such as reading, yoga, baking, art

  • Play and love on your pets as they much as they allow

  • Make sure you have adequate alone time if you live with others

  • Limit social media and news if things gets overwhelming

  • Take a short walk outside while observing recommended 6 feet of distance

  • Allow yourself to not be productive

  • Count your blessings and practice gratitude

  • Utilize telehealth therapy sessions to process everything that is going on

Support your community

  • Practice social distancing to help flatten the curve

  • If you are inclined to eat out, please consider purchasing gift cards or ordering delivery/take out from local businesses

  • Tip more than appropriate, since overall services are down and delivery folks are taking one for the rest of us!

  • Don’t panic buy- this creates more panic buying and decreases availability for everyone on the whole

  • Stand up for the Asian American community, who are experiencing coronavirus racism

  • Send love to your local healthcare providers by donating to the organization or donating meals

  • Don’t go to the doctor’s office or ER if you are sick- call ahead to get your symptoms assessed
