Individual Therapy

Cultural Identity

Cultural identity develops from the interplay between many factors that influence the way you see yourself, including ethnicity, spirituality, gender, and sexual orientation. Often, people who have bicultural or multicultural backgrounds struggle to find a place to call their own. We explore the factors that shaped you into the person you are and the dissonance with the person thought you were expected to be. Gain a better understanding and acceptance of who you are.

Asian American Mental Health

Asian Americans is the least likely racial group to access mental health treatment. This is due to several factors, including mental health stigma, distrust of providers, lack of providers who are a good fit, and misunderstandings about mental health. I incorporate factors that impact mental health and relational functioning, such as microaggressions, acculturation, and intergenerational family issues, into therapy to help you understand how the sociocultural and personal past impacts your present and future.

Relationships

We are social, relational creatures. Sometimes, it is hard to make relationships work. Working on relationships in therapy involves exploring your attachment history, interpersonal dynamics, and relational needs and fears. We will talk about what you want in relationships and how you can achieve it.

The drama of love is all about this hunger for safe emotional connection…

Psychological Assessments

Attentional Difficulties (ADHD)

·Having attention problems that make it hard to focus on school, work, or people? Is your restlessness or distractibility making it hard to get work done? Psychological testing can help you map out your attention difficulties across several domains as well as the impact on academic or work performance.

Academic Functioning

Struggling at school and wondering if you qualify for extra support? Wondering if your grade level fits your level of achievement? Have a question about learning disabilities or giftedness? Comprehensive psych testing creates a map of your cognitive and emotional functioning, allowing you to gain greater understanding of your strengths and weaknesses.

General Mental Health

A general mental health evaluation explores themes in your personality and emotional landscape as well as assesses for current psychological distress and how it manifests. These evaluations are great supplemental data for people in therapy to learn more about themselves. They can also be submitted for forensic or court-mandated assessments to determine overall psychological functioning.

Assessment logistics

Psychological evaluations include a comprehensive report that has diagnostic impressions and clinical recommendations. A report may be required by your institution or provider in order to receive accommodations or treatment.

The assessment process requires about 10-12 hours spread over multiple sessions and includes intake, test administration, records review and scoring, report-writing, and a feedback session. Assessment may also take longer depending on the complexity of the referral question. A deposit of $500 is due at the first session. The remainder of balance is due at the feedback session, during which I will review the test results and recommendations with you.

Insurance may cover part of the costs for testing. Clients are responsible for contacting their insurance provider to verify their benefits for psychological testing (in-network or out-of-network) and determine if they require a pre-authorization code. Insurance may deny coverage if a required pre-authorization code was not obtained prior to the start of testing.
